AGENTS CONNECT TO MORE HOMEBUYERS!

The Georgia Institute for Builders and Home Inspectors is a solely owned and operated subsidiary of the National Academy for Home Inspectors.  Founded in 1997, our commitment has been to help individuals take advantage of their past experience, combine it with honest training and create a new career.  Our training facility is located in Alpharetta, Georgia and has  spacious classrooms and effective learning environments. Our facility is outfitted with major systems involved in the home inspection process including new and out-dated (yet still in use) systems.

The Georgia Institute for Builders and Homes Inspectors is certified and approved by the Georgia Nonpublic Post Secondary Education Commission, the State of South Carolina's Home Inspection Board and the State of Tennessee's Home Inspection Board.

Home Inspection is a rapidly growing industry in North America. Each year millions of homes are sold in the United States. Most home inspectors are small business owners who have recognized the profit potential associated with the industry. A successful home inspector might be a part timer who does two or three inspections in a week, or a full timer who does several more in a week. It depends on the balance between an inspectors needs for and desire for freedom.

A typical inspection will take between 2 1/2 to four hours to perform, with some taking a bit longer depending on the size, age, and condition of the property. Prices for these inspections can range from $125.00 for the smallest jobs to six or seven hundred for the bigger jobs, and on occasion reaching into the $1,000.00 + range for the biggest jobs. The biggest inspections may take a full day, or even two, to complete.

A standard home inspection is not the only service an inspector can provide. Stucco inspections can also be very profitable. Radon, mold, and other environmental testing can serve to supplement an inspectors income even further. Professional witness services are also an option. Inspectors are paid $175 to $250 an hour to offer their services in court cases.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Are you hiring home inspectors?

We are looking for people who want to have their own business but we do have a tested and proven system in place to help get you started once you successfully complete the class.

How much money can I make as a home inspector?

That depends on you. A home inspector is a person who owns his/her own business. What you make depends on how much you are willing to work. If you market yourself well, you can keep yourself busy in this industry.

Is there a demand for home inspectors?

Yes. Homebuyers are becoming better educated about all aspects of the home buying process. They are listening to the consumer advocates who tell them, "get your houses inspected." The work is out there and it isn't hard to find. All you have to do is reveal yourself to the market.

How much does the class cost?

Tuition for this course is $1,495.00. Books and study materials cost $395.00. Financing is available. Prices are subject to change without notice.

H.I. 201 IRC Building Code Test Prep

For:   Builders and Inspectors

The Georgia Institute for Builders and Home Inspectors provides a Code Test Prep Course for Inspectors and Builders who wish to increase their business. The International Code Council writes the International Residential Code. This is the code that the State of Georgia has adopted as its official building code for all residential buildings.

Our Code Test Prep Class is taught continuously year round. It is taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. The class is designed to give you the knowledge you need to pass the code certification tests administered by the ICC.

Exams are given daily M-Sat. These exams cover four individual modules of residential construction; building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Intimate knowledge of the code is required in order to receive a passing score. National statistics indicate that only 20 to 30 percent of those taking the exams pass on their first attempt. The Georgia Institute for Builders and Home Inspectors offers test preparation courses covering the four modules. The class is taught by code certified home inspectors who are experts in their respective fields and are professional educators with years of experience teaching the code.

Tuition for each Code Module:

 Structure $495,

Combined Mechanical/Plumbing $795.00,

 Electrical $495.

Total Book package $479.00

TESTING

Testing is provided by Promissor now known as Pearson VUE.

Successful completion of all four exams is required to obtain the “Residential Combination Inspector” – the equivalent of the IRC / CABO certification. (Because of Georgia state law, IRC code continues to be known as CABO in Georgia.) The NEC (National Electrical Code) may be referenced where it deals with residential structures. These courses are designed to help the student learn the code and pass the four ICC exams.

Breakdown of the four tests based on the 2006 IRC:

Residential Building Inspector 50 questions 2-hour test

Residential Contractor 80 questions 4-hour test

Residential Plumbing Inspector 60 questions 2-hour test

Residential Mechanical Inspector 60 questions 2-hour test

Residential Electrical Inspector 60 questions 2-hour test

H.I. 302 Radon Certification

Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is created when uranium beneath the earth's surface deteriorates. It is thought to be the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The Georgia Institute for Builders and Home Inspectors offers a radon certification class for inspection professionals looking to expand their services.

The radon industry has expanded dramatically within the last ten years with the increased awareness of health affects associated with the exposure to radon. Individuals and companies concerned with providing healthy environments for their clients are finding that training and certification in radon testing and/or mitigation is a valuable service to include in their business especially if you are a home inspector or remolding contractor. Radon testing and mitigation techniques have expanded to allow certified radon professionals the skills and tools to provide their clients with test results and mitigation systems that are reliable and accurate. Radon professionals are finding it valuable to become certified in the radon field in order to provide assurance to their clients that they are receiving services that are within standards, ethics and protocols that can be relied on. It has especially become important to have the certification in order to provide services during real estate transactions (which account for approximately 80% of radon testing and mitigation).

This comprehensive course provides you with the resources and information you will need to be successful in your radon measurement business. This course includes the basics as well as up-to-date techniques and technology. You will learn about the health risks of radon, factors that influence radon measurements, basic radon measurement techniques, common measurement devices, and a brief overview of radon mitigation methods. This course is appropriate for individuals planning to place and retrieve radon measurement devices analyzed by third-party laboratories. It is a requirement for individuals planning to use more sophisticated analytical devices and for the Responsible Party for an Analytical Laboratory.

Tuition is $355.00 (Includes Books and Test Fee)

H.I. 303 Mold Certification for Home Inspectors

Our Mold Certification course offers an in depth program on techniques and protocols used in the collection of mold samples, safety techniques used by professionals to remediate mold contaminated material and discussions on solutions used to treat mold problems in residential environments.
